Late Friday, a motorist struck a man crossing the street near Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries.
At around 11:40 pm, the Seattle auto accident happened on Broadway Avenue near East Pike Street. Seattle police reported that the driver, a 25-year-old man, was in the center lane heading north on Broadway approaching Pike when he hit a 24-year-old man crossing the street.
According to Seattlepi.com, the impact sent the pedestrian onto the hood of the Ford Mustang, causing the victim to strike his head on the windshield before flying over the top of the vehicle and landing in the road.
When Seattle fire medics responded, they found the victim suffering from serious head injuries and a broken leg. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
The Mustang had the green light and the pedestrian had stepped into the crosswalk against the light, witnesses told police. The driver was not arrested at the time, but was also taken to Harborview.
“There were signs and we took the appropriate measures in testing,” police spokesman Mark Jamieson said, regarding the suspected impairment or intoxication of the driver.
The accident remains under investigation.
